EMDU's Cutting-Edge Curriculum
Introduction to the EMDU style
Current education and its institutional order seem to be in a mess everywhere. There’s no point beating about the bush. Diametrically opposite to the original meaning (the root word, educere means ‘bringing forth’), education today represents nothing but training and indoctrination, and that in a system that promotes maintenance of the status quo and induces a thinking pattern that can be characterized as ‘anti-Knowledge.’ It is anti-knowledge because the education system is entirely based on preserving traditions, customs, and dogmatic cultures and ‘laws’ and is resistant to The modern Education system is severely inflicted with the following short-comings (Islam et al., 2013):
• disconnection between true research and academic curriculum;
• compartmentalization of different disciplines; and
• lack of conscious and conscientious experience.
This university’s main goal is to expand ultimate knowledge, research abilities, and create new technologies, while using the research method/knowledge interpretation and research process that has been absent in post-Roman Catholic Church Europe. This method was in existence in ancient Greek, ancient India, ancient China and others and was culminated in the Islamic era when prophet Muhammad established his Caliphate. Our goal is to emulate the same knowledge gathering process, which has many important components and premises. This education system once catapulted humanity to an unprecedented growth for over a millennium. During this period, some of the greatest educationists lived. Examples are, Bokhari, the greatest biographer of all time; Ibn sina (Avecina), the father of modern medicine and alchemy; Ibn Rushd (Averröes), the father of secular philosophy and Education; Ibn Haitham (Alhazen) the father of modern optics; Al-Kindi (Alkindus), father of information processing; Ibn Khaldoun, father of modern social sciences; Al-Khwārizmī, the founding father of algebra and modern mathematics; and Al-Farabi, the father of epistemology and metaphysics. That powerful cognition and education tool has been replaced with dogmatic learning system since Europe adopted Doctrinal philosophy and its regenerated form. The book: Reconstituting the curriculum (Islam et al., 2013) describes how true education system has been replaced by ‘training to serve the Establishment’ in modern era. The curriculum and the approach of the knowledge-based education system that can revive true education is in the core of this University. It turns out that such education system is most easily amenable to the Information age.
EMDU's Unique Approach: Critical Analysis and Original Research
The current educational system does not stimulate or encourage creative thinking. As discussed extensively by Islam et al. (2013), the western educational system that was first instituted to establish the authority of the Church has been subsequently used to support the ruling class. Overall the deficiency of New Science, dealing with both physical aspect (“hard science”) and intangible aspect (“social science”) can be summarized in the following:
1. aphenomenal first premise (source);
2. aphenomenal function that connects events with the first premise. This spurious insertion of time function, it is expanded with a functionality that doesn’t exist in nature.
In terms of first premise, it was Roman Catholic Church that disconnected the ultimate source (Creator) from the creation and replaced with Trinity. The process itself was replaced with dogma that, for the first time in known history, made humans think that three things can be present at the same place at the same time. On the personal side, this cognition also disconnected human conscience from humanity, most importantly from the education system. This dogmatic cognition survived the renaissance period and continued to be used by New science, albeit in different names. Numerous ism’s were introduced, all suffering from the same shortcomings, stated above. The result has been catastrophic. Modern age is synonymous with paradoxes. Everything surrounding us points to contradiction upon contradiction. If the philosophy of dogma introduced the contradiction of mortal and immortal entity in one body, we are experiencing the worst of dogmas in today’s society. We made unprecedented progress in technology development, only to hear from Nobel Laureate Chemists (e.g. Robert Curl) that ours is a ‘technological disaster’. We claim to have progressed from dark ages of savagery and lack of empathy to modern enlightenment… only to hear from some of the most ardent supporters of modern European mindset of Capitalism (e.g., Pope Francis I) that unfair economic structures that creates huge inequalities are actually an act of terrorism. We claim to have reached the pinnacle of human equality and democratic values only to hear from Nobel Peace laureates (e.g., U.S. president Obama and the Egyptian politician Mohamed el-Baradei) that such rights only belong to a small group as the enlightened world is fed the news of a military coup in the form of the news headline “Kerry Lauds Egypt Military for 'Restoring Democracy'.” We continuously hear about the threats to human existence that loom on us because of the process that we have followed as a human race. In this process, modern society has become an expression of contradictions. In the current époque, the biggest loser has been the wellbeing of humans that got caught in the paradoxes of modern life. The biggest industry is the ‘defense’ sector that promotes war to ‘restore peace’, the second biggest industry is the pharmaceutical sector that promotes medicines. There are trillions of dollars of medicines available in the market, yet there is not a single medicine that cures a single disease.
The most astounding contradictions are rooted in the very driver of the modern epoch, viz., Economics. Economics (the original meaning being ‘to economize’ in the sense of arranging discharge of responsibilities of domestic household management to a level of maximum efficiency) has been turned into an avenue for wasteful schemes by banks and industrial conglomerates, prompting World Bank employee and Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz to castigate the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for offering ‘remedies’ that make things worse, turning slowdowns into recessions and recessions into depressions. This institutionalization of preposterous schemes is the hallmark of modern age. It involves turning real into artificial while increasing the profit margin.
For any cognition to be meaningful, must have a first correct premise. This premise itself has one major and one minor components. If both of these components are not true, soon contradictions will arise. Such contradictions cannot be remedied without correcting the first premise. New science has taken away one’s ability to change the first premise by disconnecting conscience from the cognition process. Consequently, any notion of good intention required for natural cognition is entirely missing in Eurocentric culture and today’s deplorable state of science and social science is a testimony to the only plausible outcome of that culture.
In terms of process, any data or facts, controlled experimental or natural, have no meaning unless it is to support a correct theory. With Galileo's example, we demonstrated how Galileo himself fell short and couldn't go beyond his own false premise (Islam et al., 2010a, 2010b). Even gravitational theory as well as light theory could have been advanced centuries ago if we didn’t ‘believe’ in Newtonianism, then Einsteinian narration of Universe. What we have is continuous degradation in the cognition process, leading to the placement of ‘belief’ systems that are lot more dogmatic than the original dogma.
When it comes to larger theories, such as Big bang, Evolution theory, and all fundamental social and hard science theories, the debate becomes that of ‘proving the negative’. The 'beauty' of all these theories is one can NEVER disprove them. It’s because, no matter what the evidence is, the promoters will explain away all the discrepancies with dogmatic fervor. New science starts off with the premise, No creator created universe, nor did it have any purpose. The only theory that is tolerated in New science is another theory that is riddled with equally absurd logic as long as the first premise that Nature created itself as a random act, devoid of purpose is kept intact. This would explain why today ‘Big chill’ is plausible theory but any rational theory is either a ‘conspiracy theory’, ‘metaphysics’ or religious mumbo jumbo. It will also explain why cognitive dissonance is all pervasive, ranging from politics to medical science (Beauvois and Joule, 1996). As pointed out by Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, “Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal,” it is impossible to make a revolution within a corrupt system unless there is a fundamental paradigm shift, which is nothing short of a revolution.
 Psychological conflict resulting from simultaneously held incongruous beliefs and attitudes (as a fondness for smoking and a belief that it is harmful)
